The Youngstown Creative Collective has hosted an annual Juneteenth celebration for the past five years here in the city of Youngstown. While celebrating the cultural holiday, our goal has been to build awareness, unity and to instil a spirit of reinvestment in Youngstown's African-American culture. Building upon the sacrifices made by our ancestors has remained our mission.
This year the Youngstown Creative Collective is pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Weeklong Juneteenth Celebration from June 11th through June 19th.
The festivities will commence with a community clean-up which will stretch from Midlothian Boulevard to Indianola Ave along the Market Street corridor, where we'll be partnering with several churches, community groups and businesses who call that area home. The weeklong celebration will also highlight black arts, culture, health, wellness, and history with the help of our partners. Our overall goal for this year's Weeklong Celebration is to reach back and highlight the contributions of those who have laid the foundation, telling their stories in hopes of strengthening Youngstown’s future.

Weeklong event line up

We are a community and culture that knows the importance of what has come before us.
Sankofa, which is the theme for this year's Weeklong Juneteenth Celebration, means to retrieve and return to.
Returning to our culture, our ancestors and ourselves.
The steps we take forward will most definitely impact those who will come after us.
So during this weeklong celebration we move with mindfulness and knowledge that the legacies that have come before us have set us up for the legacies we’ll leave behind.
